Brrr…It’s Cold Outside!

In the winter we tend to want slow down and stay inside.  It gets dark early and cold outside. Children and adults still need to get outside!  Remember to dress for the weather and enjoy what winter brings us.   Here at Creative Kids we will continue to go outside when the temps and wind chills are above 25˚F.  Please be sure to provide the appropriate outerwear for your child.

Being Active: All Days, All Ways
Accumulating physical activity in your family’s day, a little bit at the time adds up! So do the health benefits! Here are 4 quick ways to add more movement in your day, everyday:
• Walk to your mailbox instead of       driving
• Avoid drive-thru. Park and walk
into bank, cleaners, etc.
• Take the stairs instead of the elevator
• Park in the space farthest
from your destination.

In the colder weather it is a good idea to dress the children in layers.  Our classrooms can be chilly at times, but as the children are active they get warm.  You may want to keep an extra
sweater in the cubby.

Extra Clothes:
It is time to check your child’s extra clothes.  Make sure we have complete sets.  Be sure to check the size…We sure are growing!

Classroom News

Ms. Bootsy’s Room
Our littlest ones are growing so well.  We love to explore our room and all the things around us.  We are   rolling, and squirming, some are beginning to crawl and pull up, too.  We are investigating what we see inside and outside our windows.  We are moving to music about numbers, weather and transportation.

Ms. Heather’s Room
The crawlers have an exciting next few months.  We are looking forward to exploring with our new Dot Art. Let’s see what our imaginations can create. We continue to finger paint and color with crayons. Our next big project will be for our parents on Valentines Day…shh, it’s a surprise! The crawlers will be working very hard on standing, walking, and saying new words. We are looking forward to exploring “What’s Outside Our Window”. Hopefully the weather will get nicer, too.

Ms. Barb’s Room
We love exploring winter weather.  We brought the snow inside and made a small snowman.  What fun we had feeling the coldness in our hands.  We had a “snowball battle” with pretend snowballs and also tossed them into containers.  We continue to explore letters, numbers, colors, and shapes.  Be sure to check the white board for highlights of our day!

Ms. Angela’s
We are counting snowflakes, mittens and snowmen.  We are exploring, colors, shapes and letters and numbers each week.  We will continue to go outside even if it is for only 15 min.  Please remember to bring cold weather gear.  The little ones love exploring the snow and all we can find out side our windows!

Ms. Marie’s and Ms. Brittney’s Room
This winter our class will be counting, discovering what’s happening outside our window, and exploring ways we go!  Be sure to look for our fun art activities that enhance our themes.  Circle Time will have us discussing the theme topics, daily calendar, numbers, letters, colors and shapes.  We will continue to go outside, so make sure your cold has cold weather clothes.

Ms. Christy’s and Ms. Kathy’s Room
Winter finds us counting and exploring numbers 1-15.  We will discover the season of winter and all we find outside our window.  We have exciting activities planned for our transportation theme in March.  We will create fun art projects for Valentines Day and St. Patrick’s Day. Remember to check out our white board for daily announcements about our day!

Ms. Lori’s Room
We are having lots of fun with our letters and numbers to 21.  Outside our window we found snowflakes falling all around. Even Ms. Lori took a big tumble outside on the ground!  March will find us exploring transportation and ways to go! With Presidents Day coming and Valentines, too; stop by and see what’s new in our room.

Mrs. Rees’ and Mrs. Green’s Room
While we enjoyed many days playing outdoors in the snow, we were busy inside counting snowflakes, ice cubes, counting by two’s with pairs of ice skates and counting by fives with groups of penguin friends. Hands-on observations in our science center included various sizes of ice and predicting if it was bigger, would float or sink? We also had fun sprinkling salt and food coloring onto a large “iceberg’. As the ice melted, we were excited to see the colors sink into the center and blend into unique beautiful colors.  Our writing center is busy with writing letters we hear as we describe the drawings we make.
